What’s the most important factor for affiliate marketers after traffic? High-converting landing pages. If your landing pages don’t work to sell your affiliate products, or worse, repel them, you won’t see the commissions you’re hoping for. So, what is an affiliate landing page, and how can you ensure yours converts?
What is an affiliate landing page?
The aim of an affiliate landing page is to acquire and redirect potential customers to your affiliate links. Landing pages are used to drive your website visitors to convert in some way by getting them to take a specific action. This desired action could be filling out a survey, make a purchase, subscribing to your mailing list, or many other scenarios that help to boost conversions. For us, as affiliate marketers, most of our landing pages are going to be for one of two purposes:
- To get them to sign up to our mailing lists so we can market to them again or later
- To get them to click on our affiliate links and continue their purchase there
How do I create a landing page for affiliate marketing?
A landing page doesn’t have to be complicated. It can simply be a dedicated page on your website that your visitors land on after clicking a link on one of your ads, on a search engine, or from elsewhere on your site. The key point here is that it should be dedicated only to getting those visitors to take the desired action.
Step 1: be aware of who you’re directing to the landing page and where that traffic will be coming from. This will help you tailor your landing page copy to encourage visitors to take your desired action.
Step 2: decide where you’re going to create your landing page. There are paid online tools for this with templates, there are free tools, or you can simply create a page on your site.
Step 3: write your headlines and sales copy. This should be clear, snappy and succinct. Your CTA button should be positive, exciting, and encouraging, yet easy to read. It’s a good idea to stick to a few words on your CTA button, such as “Get my free trial,” “Start my meal plans,” or “Start my training journey.” In the future, it’s a good idea to test a few different landing pages, but for now, focus on creating one.
Step 4: ensure your design supports the goal of your landing page. The layout and content of your landing page must be focused solely on the objective of increasing conversions. Keep the page design modern and simple; remove any sidebars, and consider removing your menu bar too.
Step 5: make sure your website is secure by obtaining an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate to create a foundation of trust by establishing a secure connection. You can obtain a free SSL certificate here.
Step 6: You may also want to add an offer limitation, for example, a countdown to a certain product going out of stock or an offer’s availability.
Where can I create a free landing page?
There are many sources of website building technology, some of which are really well known and well-received, such as Mailchimp, where you can design landing pages as well as email signup forms and even a lookalike audience finder.
Another well-reviewed basic website builder is Wix, which actually explains why you need a great affiliate landing page and how landing pages work.
For a particularly user-friendly experience, you can check out Ucraft, where you can easily access landing page templates, as well as tips on how to make the most out of your landing page.
Of course, you can always just make one on your website if you’re sticking to a budget. Once you’ve generated some income, you could consider switching to something like LeadPages, but many affiliate marketers see success with “basic” landing pages.
One of the best things about landing pages is that they’re actually quite easy to make. Once you’re ready to take your online marketing to a new level, you can create more than one landing page and compare the performance of multiple designs, using A/B tests. This technique can tell a lot about your target audience, giving clarity on future marketing goals, as well as increase conversion rates.
